Minutes – W4WDA Spring Meeting 2012

APRIL 21, 2012

President Jon Graham was not in attendance due to an unexpected emergency so Vice President Sam Vandenberg will chair the meeting.

Reviewed the tentative agenda and made revisions accordingly.

Vice President Sam Vanderberg called the meeting to order.

Roll call was held.

Secretary’s Report was approved as submitted.

Much discussion on many topics are addressed in the State Trails Coordinator report by Luana Schneider that is submitted and therefore are not included in these minutes, therefore, refer to that report.

Website is being handled by Brian Swearingen. He has asked that information be sent in as Word Documents which makes it easy for him to work with. Facebook & Twitter accounts are created. There was discussion on how to get information to W4WDA membership when items such as the minutes are on the website. Discussion followed to set up a group email account to notify members of when the minutes have been posted on the website.

Amanda Cottrell reported there were no updates in regard to the By-laws or SOP.

It was discussed that W4WDA should consider generating a flyer for the State Welcome Centers.

United Four Wheel Drive Associations has revised their SOP in regard to dues. Either $15 per membership OR $1,000. It was voted on to pay $15 per member of the BOD plus By-Laws chair and Website Chair for a total of $165 at this point in time.

The question came up as to whether you need to be a member of WOHVA in order to participate in the Jeep Jamboree—it’s pretty sure that you do not have to be a member. Also, even though the oil spill kits that United sells are biodegradable. If on the trails at Mole Lake all residue must by hauled out.

Membership—Helen Wagner will be sending Northwoods Off Road Club of Antigo a membership packet.

Lake States Resource Alliance (LSRA)—Helen & Gil Wagner reported that the LSRA now meets at the Trees for Tomorrow office in Rhinelander. They are working on re-organizing, increasing membership, more fund raising, increase BOD numbers, opening forest roads to all gas powered vehicles. What some do not understand is how slow things move due to volunteers who have full-time jobs!

Budget Committee had no report.

State Trail Legislation (sticker/decal program) concept letter has been sent to WOHVA for their file to be submitted to legislators.

Region A report by Arnold and Beverly Miller. There was a Toys for Tots and a Ride for Hope Coalition last year and are again going to occur this year—watch W4WDA website for further information on both.

Region B report by Orlin Clark—There will be a swap meet in conjunction with an old car show on May 19, in Cashton. Minnesota DNR involved in a park in Houston, MN with the city having 150 acres with more acres being added.

Region C by Sam Vandenberg—4×4 Forever are selling bottle cozies as a cancer fund raiser. They are collecting coupons for over-seas troops. They can use as long as six months after expiration date. They have sent over $8,400 of coupons so far with the club paying the postage. There was discussion on other clubs sending coupons to Sam to add to the collection.

Cindy & Dave Bahr invited W4WDA to join them on a trail ride in Antigo the weekend of April 28 & 29 (a handout was available).

W4WDA Spring Fling will be the weekend of May 5 & 6 at Apple Valley. You do not need to be a member of W4WDA to participate. The cost is $60 per vehicle which includes primitive camping. The agreement made by Jon Graham as president of W4WDA with Apple Valley is that there will be at least 30 vehicles in attendance. Apple Valley has also asked for a listing of all those so far planning to attend.

Chris Hannis handed out flyers to the 10th Anniversary of his 30th Birthday” Party. Everyone is welcome. There is limited primitive RV camping available. A dish to pass is welcome but not necessary.

Rod & Luana Schneider were recommended as delegates for United 4WDA to be appointed by presiding president and they accepted.

The March of Dimes Rally for 2012 will be held at Northwoods Overland in Rib Lake, Wisconsin on October 6 & 7.

The various dues for the various organizations were discussed. Chris Hannis stated that anyone who is a member of W4WDA joining WOHVA can join for $20 instead of $25 due to a reciprocity agreement with WOHVA.

Membership application forms were handed out to join Wisconsin Off Road Park, Inc. that is working towards a large Off Road Park in Forest County. You can get an application on the internet at www.worvpi.org. The first official membership meeting will be held on May 12 at Potawatomi Carter in Carter. Brian Swearingen was voted in to represent W4WDA at these meetings.

There was discussion on possibilities on the association elections this fall with concerns of filling positions.

The Fall Convention will be held October 19 & 20 probably in Lacrosse, Wisconsin. Orlin Clark will check in on that. If for some reason that should not work, it will be held in Waupaca again.

Orlin Clark also announced that the River City Four Wheelers and the Weekend Four Wheelers are submitting a bid for the April Midwest/Wisconsin 2013 CONVENTION on April 19, 20 & 21, 3013 with vendors, workshops, seminars etc. This was agreed as an accepted plan.

There was discussion of the need of a January meeting. There were pros and cons on this and in a vote it was agreed to continue to have the January meeting. It will be held January 12, 2013 at Hidden Waters in Waupaca with a potluck lunch.

The Badger Ammunition Plant Master Plan is to start in May. Luana expressed the need for the clubs in the area to take a very active role in this Master Plan in order to possibly have trails for Four Wheel Drive as part of that plan!

There was discussion on the closure to the public of the Northwoods Overland Park after Memorial Day and how W4WDA can stay involved in this park.
